The vent on the board on picture two was there because that was one of the first boards I made using that construction, and I thought to put the goretex valve there because of fear that since the board is completely black, under the sun would delaminate, but I have discovered that is really not necessary. That board in question is from over 2 years ago.
I have had personally an 85L board with hollow construction over 1 year and didn't find any problems.
